Saffron Walden Hockey Club have been on the rise for a number of years now - and it shows no signs of slowing down due in part to the success of their junior section.

Since relocating from it's original home at Catons Lane to Newport in 1994, Walden have continued to deliver the game to many in the surrounding area.

And with the improvements to the clubhouse, along with a second artificial surface on the same site, match day has brought a festival feel to the club.

The latest round of fixtures also saw the youngsters shine with two in particular making it to the first teams.

Hermione Barker, 14, was not only part of the ladies' side but also one of the scorers as Walden beat rivals Bishop's Stortford 3-0 at home.

Seventeen-year-old Toby Weston meanwhile was in the men's team that gave watching fans a few heart palpitations before securing a 3-2 success at Stortford.

It was a mostly winning weekend for the club with seven of the 12 games played ending in a Walden victory.

Another two ended in a draw.

The biggest win belonged to the men's fourth and an 8-1 success at Braintree.

The other two winners for the men. the seconds and fifths, both won 4-0 at home to Braintree and Basildon respectively.

The biggest win for the ladies was a 5-2 success for the seconds at Royston, although the fourths won 4-1 at home to Bishop's Stortford.
