AFTER already clinching the Cambridge league title with an impressive undefeated season, the Saffron Steelers smashed Littleport Lions 76-53 to win the league cup.

A large crowd at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre witnessed the Steelers get off a solid start with Clay, Sheridan and Dexter controlling the tempo.

Littleport made some tough shots but never really managed to pull back the lead that Walden established and at half time the game looked over.

The third quarter saw some tense moments as the Lions mounted a comeback. But the Steelers, behind strong play from Purcell and Weston, pulled away and cruised home.

Captain Neil Clay said: “I’m really proud of all the lads, this is a perfect way to finish a great season. Hopefully we can use this momentum in our Essex league semi final next week.”
