TWO talented trampoline stars brought a close to the regional competition season by winning medals.

Cambridge Cangaroos Trampoline Club’s Matthew Burson, from Ickleton, and Sydney Kelly, from Saffron Walden, were part of a 13-strong team that entered the inaugural Eastern Region Regional Championships in Wisbech on Sunday.

Twelve-year-old Burson, in the under-15 boys National C competition, become regional champion. He produced his best routines of the season to record a total score of 54.9 and took the gold medal by over three points.

It was good practice for the youngster ahead of the national finals in Birmingham in two weeks’ time.

Kelly, meanwhile, was aiming to add to her impressive medal haul. Competing in the under-13 girls Regional F competition, she put in two competent routines to take the bronze medal with a score of 47.2.

In a fantastic day for the Cambridge club – with individual scores leading to four gold medals, four silver medals and two bronze medals – the Cangaroos were crowned regional team champions with an overall score of 361, beating fierce rivals Brentwood by just two points.
