CHILDREN can get fit and have fun at a junior athletics club run by the Saffron Striders running club.

Following a hugely successful initial course, the junior athletics club will now be running on a permanent basis at Linton Village College.

Youngsters are coached by Saffron Strider Fiona Tideswell, who is an experienced runner and qualified coach, along with athletics coach James Brennard.

Fiona said: “The club provides coaching in basic athletics skills - running, jumping and throwing - to young people who want to improve their ability, or to try it for the first time.

“These skills are relevant in all sports and we welcome any child in Years 3 to 6 who wants to take part, learn a range of skills and improve their fitness - and of course have fun as well!

“The first course we ran towards the end of 2010 proved very popular, so we have decided to continue in 2011.”

Sessions are held at Linton Village College from 4.15pm to 5.15pm on Wednesdays. Participants must sign up a term at a time - the term starts on Wednesday January 12 and runs for 12 weeks (excluding February half term) and costs £6 (£3 a session). The club is for children in school years three to six.
