Archant

Newport Croquet Club got the new East Anglian Federation season underway recently.

The club has entered two teams into both the handicap and B level play Golf Croquet matches, with the teams compelled to play each other in the first round.

In the handicap the Oaks beat the Elms rather decisively by 13 games to five, but the B level was a much closer affair.

The outcome was eventually decided when the Hawks accidentally peeled an opposition Harriers ball through the “golden hoop” – the deciding extra hoop after a drawn game.

Hawks thus ran out the winners by four matches to three.
