WaldenTri women’s vets team took top prize in one of the most testing races of the cross-country series at Watford on Sunday.

Against 18 other clubs, the vets team of Stefanie Godfrey, Hazel Turton, Lou Rolfe, Brenda Clayton and Chloe Brown proved a winning formula in the final race of the cross-country league at Cassiopark.

Godfrey also secured an individual first place for her age group, once again putting in a very impressive performance.

In brilliant sunshine, over 300 runners tackled the 6.1 mile course across parkland, including a challenging four-mile section through woodland negotiating steep hills, deep mud and fallen trees. The last 1.5 miles uphill to the finish line made for a testing race.

Mark Coutts and Doug Bowen also put in convincing individual performances against a strong field, bettering previous results and Craig Dyce finished high up the field in 10th place, the first from WaldenTri to reach the finish line.

It completes the cross-country league which many of the runners will have used to better their strength and endurance in preparation for the upcoming triathlon race season.
