Ickleton teenager Matthew Burson marked his first international trampolining competition with a gold medal.

The 14-year-old, who trains with the Cambridge Cangaroos, was competing in the L2 of the Dave Ward Hunt International Cup. He ended the first day second in the standings after averaging 8.1 for his set routine.

He lost the chance to improve his score as the time of flight devices, which measure how long an athlete is in the air – one of Burson’s strongest attributes – were not working.

With just one routine to complete on the final day, Burson averaged 8.0 for his routine and, with the time of flight devices working, he won the competition by more than two marks.
