Saffron Walden's Melissa and Graham Jones won the Princes Mixed Open at Sandwich


Saffron Walden’s Melissa and Graham Jones lifted the Shingles End Trophy after winning the Princes Mixed Open at Sandwich.

Over 40 couples competed in the 27-hole event and the Joneses finished with 63 points, one ahead of the field.

Meanwhile, Olly Tuck beat Mike Nutall and Scott Parnell to reach the club’s Scratch Knockout final, then beat Richard Southgate on the 15th hole with a three-under par round.

John Izod was five up on Ed Hodgkin in the Taylor Cup final, but it was all square after 15 holes and Hodgkin went one up on the 16th, before an excellent chip at the last secured victory.

Spencer Burlingham won the President’s Cup, while Geoff Mansfield beat Paul Smith in the senior Summer Knockout Cup final after defeating Geoff Tobin in the semi-finals.

Sue Amiss beat Angela Reed one up to win the Carter Cup, while Jane Wagstaff beat Rita Craig on the 18th to lift Victory Cup.
