Archant

Hettie Carter pipped brother Charlie to the December Cup silverware in Saffron Walden Golf Club’s final junior trophy competition.

Both siblings finished the stableford event with 33 points, but new juniors captain Charlie had to settle for the runners-up spot on countback.

In dreary conditions, Hettie managed only 11 points from her first nine holes in a modest start.

But an excellent par on the short 11th hole earned her three points and led to a significant change in fortunes over the course of the back nine.

A 22-point haul coming in were too much for her big brother and after claiming her trophy, a delighted Hettie said: “I’m very happy as I’ve been struggling with a wrist injury all year.

“This was my first win, made even sweeter by beating my older brother!”

Meanwhile, fellow junior member Jack Sparrow was also celebrating after he claimed first prize in a nine-hole competition.
