TOM Duggan and Olly Tuck saved Walden from a hammering in the recent round of CAGU Division One matches in which Walden lost 4-2 away at Gog Magog last week.

Duggan and Tuck, who are proving to be Walden’s star pairing this year, produced a fine display of foursomes golf to defeat De Woolf and Howard 1up.

All square coming to the 18th Duggan produced the shot of the match with a seven iron to six feet and with the Gogs pairing three-putting the green Walden won.

This win saved Walden from a heavy defeat after the first pairing of Rob Booth and Cameron Brown who were 2up, lost five holes in a row, to lose 3down.

In the final match, Richard Southall and Daniel van der Westhuizen never got going against Stammers and Williams and lost 6down.

• You would of thought waiting 39 years for your first hole in one was enough for some people, well not for Gavin Greenaway, a none handicapper from Saffron Walden Golf Club.

On June 14, had his first hole in one with a six iron to the 183-yard 18th and amazingly he orchestrated a repeat performance last Thursday on the 5th, again with his trust six iron. Greenaway is head of music at the Friends School and said afterwards: “To wait 39 years for your first hole in one is amazing and for another one to come along 16 days later is mind blowing.”
