SAFFRON Walden’s scratch team gave Elton Furze a rude awakening when they powered to a 6-0 victory last weekend in the CAGU division one.

The team of six produced their best performance of the season to move into second place in the standings ahead of a big match next week against leaders Abbostley.

Olly Tuck and Cameron Brown won 5up – a great achievement seeing that Tuck and Brown went through the last 9 holes in three under par and had not played foursomes together before.

Richard Southall and Daniel van der Westhuizen then came up against the new county champion ,Jody Greenall, and his partner Adam Pike. After being 3down the Elton pairing managed to square the game and they reached the 17th all square. Van der Westhuizen then holed his 60yd wedge for a birdie and this was enough to give the Walden boys a 1up victory.

James Goodfellow and Graham Goodman gave their opposition Iacono and Scott a rude awakening by being 8up through 11 holes. The Walden pairing’s birdie blitz sent them romping home to a 7up victory.
