Grove tennis club has successful finals day

FINALS day produced a great display of tennis at the Grove Club in Saffron Walden last Saturday.

Despite some adverse weather conditions including wind and driving rain a terrific day was had by all the players.

The men’s final was won by Ollie Toms who beat Phil Jones 6-3 6-1 and the standard of tennis between these two was terrific to watch.

The ladies final was won by Alice McGee who triumphed over Alex Jones 6-1 6-3 – two young players with great futures ahead of them.

The men’s doubles final was won by Ollie Toms and Phil Jones who beat Guy and Collum Tremayne 7-5 6-3.

In the ladies doubles final Alice McGee and Alex Jones beat Trisha Esplin and Beth Will 6-3 6-2.

The Mixed pairs competition was won by Ollie Toms and Alex Jones who beat Adrian Brown and Alice McGee.

In the closed finals the men’s singles champion was James Kenyon who beat Paul Kent 7-5 7-5. This year the ladies singles was not contested.

The men’s doubles went to Simon Beckwith and Marcus Forgham who completed victory over Paul Kenyon and Giuseppe Jafari 6-0 6-0.

The ladies doubles was won by Charlotte Cansell and Sussana Mee who beat Val Forbes and Charmian Wylde 6-4 6-4.

And in the mixed doubles final Adrian Brown and Alex Roberts beat Paul Kent and Liz Stott 6-4 6-4.
