Archant

Katherine Langridge’s second hat-trick of the season and a Stef Mayle brace helped Walden to a 5-3 victory over Lincoln, putting 12-point advantage between themselves and their third placed rivals.

The hosts had the best of the first 25 minutes, taking a three-goal lead after a short corner strike and two from open play. Lincoln changed tactics, setting up a defensive half pitch press content to let Walden’s defence pass between themselves, and this paid off as they stole two goals back before the break.

Having let their dominant hold on the game slip Walden knew the importance of the next goal and they scored it in style.

A Lincoln defender was dispossessed, Mayle took up the ball on the right and fired in a lifted ball that was met on the volley by Langridge as she ran in on goal.

Lincoln again came back to reduce the deficit to one but Mayle finished off a well worked corner routine to make it 5-3 and settle any nerves during the remaining minutes.
