Saffron Walden’s under-18 boys were on cloud nine after thrashing West Herts in the Mercian League.

Alex Newitt and Tom Grove Smith netted hat-tricks in their 9-1 success, with James Barker, Sam Bushnell and Barnaby Deller also on target in a third straight win.

The women’s sixth team won by the same margin against Stevenage fifths in their Five Counties League Division Five derby.

They led 3-0 at half time, then netted twice in two minutes after the restart.

Kate Page led the way with a hat-trick, while Jessica Barker and Grace Westwood scored two goals apiece.

Katie Newman and Chris Price were also on target as Walden ran riot.

The thirds came from behind to beat Leighton Buzzard seconds in Division One, as Sam Pluck scored twice to give them a lead at half-time.

After Buzzard levelled with a good strike from the edge of the D, Grace Mellor scored a lovely goal to seal a 3-2 win.
