WALDEN have narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League after letting slip a 3-1 lead against fourth-placed Dragons in their penultimate match of the season.

Missing four first choice defenders cost the visitors dear despite goals from Stef Mayle, Emma Deary and Sam Pluck. A third place finish is now guaranteed.

Walden were on a run of five wins in a row but they squandered their 3-1 advantage as elsewhere second-placed Cambridge University won 1-0 away at Harleston.

Although missing players it was a strong performance as Mayle filled in at right back and defended solidly, and keeper Polly Oakman put in a good shift at the back.

Walden dominated the first two thirds of the game and played fluently to get two goals in front but then it fell apart in the closing stages as the Dragons equalised in the final minutes.

Next: Walden travel to Cambridge City looking to finish their season with a bang.
