Hockey: Title is on ice after Walden ladies can only draw with Norwich Dragons

Walden’s quest to become league champions will have to wait until next week after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by second placed Norwich Dragons.
With both teams intent on showcasing attacking hockey, the play was fast in tempo and end to end. Stef Mayle converted a penalty stroke to give the home side a deserved lead before Katherine Langridge’s individual goal doubled the advantage.
Walden were resolute in defence and a fine diving stick save from Olivia Doust maintained Walden’s advantage going into the break. Dragon’s pressed higher in the second period and although struggled to create chances in open play, testament to Emma Deary’s efforts in keeping their playmaker at bay, scored twice from short corners.
In the remaining minutes, Walden searched for a winner and were disappointed when Julia Westnedge’s goal was disallowed as the umpire had already blown for a short corner.
This along with two others went unconverted and they had to settle for a share of the points.
