Local karate school CHKA saw members combine to win a superb haul of 20 medals at the National kyu grade championships in Leicester recently.

Competitors from many of Saffron Walden’s local schools attended the prestigious English Karate event, where more than 1,200 from all over the country were in action.

And students surpassed themselves in some large categories to reach 10 finals and record many podium places.

Coach Claire Kemp said: “This is hugely impressive and testament to the hard work they put in at lessons.

“To have children, teenagers and adults involved in karate to this level is just fantastic and to return with 20 medals has made me so proud of them and the work we are all putting in.”
