In the last event of the year 16 Saffron Striders braved the cold temperatures and high winds to tackle the Ely 10K race on New Year’s Eve.
Seth Kennard won the event with a time of 36 minutes 55 seconds, followed by Tony Bacon’s career best time of 39 minutes 43 seconds.
Tim McMahon finished third with an equally impressive time of 41.33.
First for the ladies was Fiona Halls who won the female over 40 category, her second win in seven days plus club captain Arthur Oliva got a personal best with an excellent 44.24.
In other results, Striders hosted the third cross country race of the season, 4.5 miles of unforgiving Newport corn fields, competing for places with Ware Joggers, Bishops Storford Running Club and Harlow.
Brin Reynolds was first over the line for Striders with Andrew Mynott a close second. Also Barry Taylor returned to action after six weeks out through illness to finish in 34.27.
The ladies’ event saw both Fiona Halls and Rebecca White pick up impressive times in what was a very strong turnout for the home side.
Upcoming races include Hoddeston away on Sunday, January 24 at 11am with the Benfleet 15-mile race the weekend before (Sunday, January 17).
