Louis Martin completed a hat-trick of wins at Saffron Walden Golf Club’s Easter Trophies competition.
According to tradition, the juniors start the competitive golf season at the club with this event and Martin lifted the gross and scratch titles, despite a strong challenge from runner-up Jamie Price.
The wintry and wet weather has left challenging conditions on the course, making the judging of distances particularly tough.
But Martin managed a birdie on the fifth hole on his way to a gross round of 78 (nett 73), to finish one over par.
Toby Hamilton won first prize in the nine-hole competition.
*A total of 26 teams took part in the county am-am at Girton Golf Club, with a quartet from Bourn coming out on top.
The format for the stableford competition required the two best scores on each hole, except the fourth and 17th where all four scores were counted.
And Bourn’s Linda Brown, Lindy Clemow, Jackie Francis and Mel Owers took top spot with an excellent combined score of 91.
Second place went to Sally Acton, Anne Gibbs, Sally Palmer and Shirley Osborne, from Brampton Park, as they tallied 88 points.
Countback was required to determine third place, with Nicky Hastings, Nicky Cope, Lynn King and Debbie Tiplady (St Ives & The Cambridgeshire) nudging ahead of Girton’s Sue Hill, Gillian L’Angeliar, Jacqui Storey and Claire Tonner, after both teams scored 86 points.
The nearest the pin prize on the fourth hole went to Ely City’s Greta Barclay.
*The county vets beat the county women’s second team in their annual pre-season friendly, in tricky conditions.
Junior Morgan Tritton (Gogs) and former county junior Chloe Ashman lost out to experienced duo Grace Eastment (The Cambridgeshire) and Mo Poole (Brampton Park) 3&1 in the top match.
And vets Tina Broadley (Ely City) and Sharren Kjenstad (Ramsey) edged past Cindy McIntyre (Bourn) and Anna Guest (Gogs) 2&1, after a terrific battle.
Lucy Mills-Cripps and Liz Alderson (Ramsey) went down to Lesley Gilchrist (Gogs) and Jude Hole (The Links) by a 2&1 margin in the final match as the vets completed their victory.
