Mixed Bank Holiday double-header for Saffron Walden

Having beaten Eaton Socon in the league just two days earlier, Saffron Walden could not replicate the feat at Ketton on Bank Holiday Monday.

Walden lost the toss and were sent into bat.

They made a solid start reaching 39 before the first wicket of Alex Morley (15) was lost.

From then on in, Walden struggled to build any meaningful partnerships, with Ketton’s medium pace bowler, Peter Rowe, wreaking havoc on his way to match-winning figures of 5-29 off 10 overs.

Ben Harris was the pick of the Walden batsmen, making 29, which included three sixes and one boundary.

Ketton continued their momentum when they began their batting innings, only losing two wickets on their way to reaching Walden’s target of 178 off just 32.3 overs.

Rowe showed off his all-round ability, making 79 at the top of the order, while number three batsman, Shakir Mahmood, made an unbeaten 74 off just 89 balls.

Cameron Taylor and Jack Sneath took the wickets for Joe Barrs’ men.

Walden travel to league leaders Ramsey on Saturday.
