The team of Roger and Vilma Krinks, David and Lynda Minton triumphed in the Morrow Trophy at Saffron Walden Golf Club on Sunday.

A large field competed for the prestigious Morrow Trophy, presented to the club in 2008 by Lady Morrow, commemorating her late husband’s great grandfather, “Old Tom Morris” winner of four Open Championships in the 19th century, on the centenary of his death.

Spencer Burlingham, Paul Swatton, Damian Alltree and Callum Brookes were in front late on, gaining 87 points for a clubhouse lead.

However, the Krinks and Mintons, the final team in the running, pipped them at the post, notching eight birdies and an eagle to claim victory by a single point.

Conditions were not so favourable on Tuesday, when consistent driving rain decimated the entries for the club qualifying round for the national Ping 4BBB.

Of the 11 pairs that braved the weather a number failed to finish.

Kiyoko McLellan and Maggie Fenton returned a brave 35 points, winning on countback from Melissa Jones and Pat Clarke.
