Quendon Bowling Club is holding an open day on Sunday (April 24).

Visitors are welcome to come and try bowls, with refreshments available from the bar and members on hand to offer help and advice from 12.30pm.

A spokesperson said: "Everyone can learn to play lawn bowls, ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, young and old.

"You can play socially just for fun or join a team and play league matches. New members are always welcome and the club's facilities can be booked for social events."

The season begins in earnest in the first week of May, with Quendon playing matches in the North West Essex and Steeple Bumpstead leagues on Wednesday and Friday evenings.

They play friendly matches against local teams at the weekend, while fun roll-up sessions are popular on Tuesday evenings.

*Saffron Walden Town Bowls Club are holding a bowls open day at their Abbey Lane base on Sunday May 29.

Held in conjunction with Bowls England, visitors can try their hand at bowls, with some fun target bowling included.

Members will be on hand to help from 11am to 5pm, with refreshments and cakes available and the bar open.

Trainers or flat shoes must be worn, with the outdoor season running from May until September and the clubhouse can be hired for all occasions all year round.
