The sun came out, the wind dropped and Walden hit the inland links to beat St Ives 4-2 in CAGU Division One.

Mark Reeve and Olly Tuck roared back from one down to win 4up. After Reeve holed a 25-foot birdie putt on the eighth, they never looked back and carded three-under through to last nine holes to seal a comfortable victory.

After overcoming traffic problems on the M11, Richard Southall and Cam Brown displayed their usual steadiness and won 4up. In the final pairing, Graham Goodman and Ian Macdonald lost heavily.

In the other fixture, Ramsey beat Links 6-0 to move within a point of Walden in the table and three off leaders Brampton Park.

Captain Goodman said: “It has been another impressive performance by the pairings of Tuck and Reeve and Southall and Brown. This victory puts us right in the mix for the league.

“Availability will improve with the last part of the season, with three home fixtures and one away tie remaining.

“We now have a break of two weeks in which the county championships are held at Walden and the team is up to try and qualify for the EGU champion club.”
