A STUDENT from Saffron Walden has scooped first place in an event which saw him ride the length of the Isle of Man in just over four hours.

Friends School pupil Callum Riley competed in the historic event last month and clocked a very impressive time of 4 hours 2mins. He finished first in the under 16s category.

Riley said: “I was really pleased as I have only been competing in endurance events for just over a year. It was a great race and a brilliant experience.”

The 75km course runs from the northern most point to the southern most point of the island and consists of 1500 metres of climbing, fast fire roads, moorland paths, country lanes and forest single-track.

There were 1359 entries of which only 991 completed the course. Riley who is in Year 11 at Friends’ was placed 97th overall and has only been competing for 18 months.
