PUBLISHED: 10:20 31 August 2010

RUGBY season is upon us and so this weekend Saffron Walden Rugby Club’s youth section is launching its open day registration and training session.

Take part by going to the club’s ground near Henham on Sunday September 5 from 10am.

Director of youth rugby Simon Read said: “This season the youth section at SWRFC is looking to continue the progress it has made over the last few years.

“We are running full squads in all mini age groups (under six to under 11), and the joint venture with Wenden’s Ambo RFC at under 12 level will continue into its sixth straight year.

“All of our youth teams will be playing in the Essex League, and last week we announced the launch of our new youth academy for under 17 players to help their transition to adult rugby.”

He added: “We would love to see new members in all of our age groups and we are particularly looking for new players in the under 9, under 16 and under 17 squads.”

If you are interested in joining the club call Simon on 07940 016 672, e-mail him at, or visit the club’s website at for more information.
