Saffron Walden under-16s gave their best team display of the season to beat Sudbury 43-24.

Sudbury scored first during a tense opening after intercepting a pass to run in a try, but Ryan Curtis hit back and Finn Thomas ended a fine team move.

Curtis touched down again, with a typically gritty and determined effort, before Sudbury’s second try of the match made it 19-12 at half time.

And Curtis completed his hat-trick after the restart, before Kaelen Campbell finished off a series of phases.

And Alex Keys claimed two tries to add to four successful conversions as Walden stuck to their game plan, before Sudbury scored two late tries for some consolation.

A club spokesman said: “So many players had a best of the season performance and were rightly proud of the style and teamwork.

“Sudbury were strong, but Walden proved too good. Excellent work lads!”
