Archant

GAMES across the Saffron Walden area were badly hit by the weather at the weekend with football matches for Stansted, Saffron Walden and Takeley called off.

Frozen pitches were mainly to blame and Stansted lost top spot to Witham Town who were the only side to play in the Essex Senior League. The Airportmen do still have two games in hand to make up the three-point gap however.

Takeley lost out twice after Tuesday night’s game against Barkingside was also cancelled, as did Saffron Walden who had their Wednesday night cup fixture postponed.

In rugby and hockey it was a similar story, with all Saffron Walden sides and Sawston RFC losing out on playing time.

All fixtures this weekend will be subject to change as well with the cold weather set to stay – keep up to fate with local sport at saffronwalden24.co.uk or follow NickPJThompson on Twitter.
