IN extremely windy conditions Walden travelled to Ely after beating them 34-0 in the corresponding home fixture last October.

However, as the visitors made a string of handling and tackling errors, the hosts started stronger and scored twice in the first 15 minutes.

Walden spent the first 20 defending in their own half but recovered with a John Clark try – converted by Will Clark – only to be stifled again by Ely before the break. With the half time score at 19-7, Walden coaches Paul Finch, Dan Clark and Ian Walters had plenty to think about on what to include in the team talk.

Whatever they said appeared to do the trick. The second half started with a Josh Curtis converted try after only five minutes, soon after, James Walters broke through the line for a try at Centre.

The score of the game quickly followed – Dominic Fanning showed his lightning pace to round his opposite number at wing to score in the corner.

In the closing minutes some of the earlier errors crept back in, but Walden had done enough to record their third straight victory.
