Tom on his way to second place

SAFFRON WALDEN teenager Tom Blomqvist collected another brace of podiums at Silverstone in rounds 17 and 18 of the Formula Renault UK Championship.

Two second-place finishes underlined the sensational consistency which has catapulted the 16-year-old into the lead of the drivers’ championship.

In spite of the fact it is his first year of competing in the highly competitive championship, Tom now leads the title standings by nine points from Lewis Williamson.

“We came here looking to get a good handful of points and take the lead of championship so in one sense it is a job well done,” he said.

“Really, I think we could have won both races, so it is a little disappointing to come away without a winner’s trophy.

“Now the focus is on Brands Hatch. I will be working hard with Fortec and my management team to make sure we are fully prepared and ready to end the season on a high.”

The final two rounds of the 2010 championship will take place at Brands Hatch, Kent on October 9 and 10.

The highly-respected junior series will rejoin the British Touring Car package as both championships go into their respective season finales.
