Having lost just twice in 10 meetings with sides in London One North’s bottom half this campaign, Saffron Walden boss Danny Hunter says confidence is high ahead of Saturday’s trip to fourth-bottom Fullerians.
Seventh-placed Walden, who beat Ruislip 47-38 last time out, have struggled against the top six this season.
Hwoever, they have turned it on when it mattered against the league’s lower sides, staving off any relegation fears they may have harboured at the beginning of the season after promotion last campaign.
Hunter told the Reporter: “Fullerians are a strong team with good attacking options as they showed when they visited us in October [Walden won 71-48].
“Our form against the lower sides has been good though and if we can get our defence right I feel we’ve got enough to get another big victory.”
Despite their recent good showings, Walden have still conceded 30-plus points in their past six matches so defence is unsurprisingly high on Hunter’s priority list.
He continued: “The wins are great but often we’re making it harder for ourselves than it has to be [by giving away so many points] so I want us to tighten up our defence.
“We’ve worked hard on it over the past couple of weeks so hopefully we’ll see improvements at Fullerians.”
