An 8-4 win over Long Sutton at Joyce Frankland Academy on Saturday means Saffron Walden Hockey Club men’s first team are now just five points off second place in East Men’s League Premier B.

They host promotion rivals Spalding this Saturday looking for a second straight success.

The ladies are also still in contention for promotion after a terrific 3-1 East Women’s League Division 1N victory at Blueharts.

It was their ninth triumph of the campaign and leaves them just three points off Norwich City in top spot.

The two teams meet in a huge clash in Norfolk on Saturday.

A win could put the ladies top of the pile.
