Saffron Walden Golf Club’s scratch team, supported by Ford Wells group, beat Ramsey 4-2 on the road to get their season back on track.

After losing last week, Olly Tuck and Mark Reeve bounced back with a convincing two-up victory over Debenham’s Scott and Hollands.

In tough course conditions Walden used the strengths of Tuck’s newlyfound powerful driving and Reeves imaginative wedge play to seal the game with a birdie on the 16th.

In the next tie the new formidable pairing of Callum Brookes and Richard Southall won five-up.

Using Southall’s leadership they slotted home two birdies on the par fives and never looked back.

Against Ramsey’s top pairing of Hodgkin and Cripps, Ian Macdonald and Ryan Adair lost three-down.

Graham Goodman captain said: “We really needed our top pairing to get back to winning ways and they did.

“Our second pairing produced again which means we are back on track among the leaders for our next game, against St Neots, which is at home in a couple of weeks.”

Standings: Brampton Park eight points; Gog Magog seven; Saffron Walden six; Ramsey two; St Neots one.
