Martin Johnson says Saffron Walden Town’s recent good Thurlow Nunn Premier Division form has given the club a “platform to build from for next season.”

A further victory over Walsham le Willows on Saturday (see right) increased the Bloods’ 2016 league points tally to 25 from 14 league games, an upturn which has guaranteed the club’s Premier status for another season and has also impressed the chairman.

Johnson told the Reporter: “Saturday’s result was another fantastic win against a good Step 5 side, and a really important milestone for the season, ensuring we consolidate in this league.

“This has been a really testing year for the club, but to see the team now sitting in the top half of the table on 42 points, with a 40-point target being set for Stuart [Wardley - Saffron Walden manager] back in the summer, speaks volumes for his and the players’ achievements.

“Since November we have been a match for all but the very top sides in the league. This should give us a decent platform to build from for next season.”
