Saffron Walden Town celebrated a fine season and 'one of the best in the club's history' at their end of term awards evening on Saturday.

Players, management, officials and supporters gathered at Catons Lane to toast a campaign which ended with the first team securing promotion to the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

Chairman Martin Johnson said: “Saturday’s awards night was a celebration of a magnificent season, one of the best in the club’s history.

“It was also a chance to say thank you to everyone who has played a part - players, football staff, volunteers, supporters and board members.

“Everyone really enjoyed a great evening.”

At the weekend it was also announced that the club had won the Best Programme of the Year Award in the Thurlow Nunn (Eastern Counties) League for the first time.

The club’s youth section has also been awarded the FA Charter Standard.

While for the third year running the Bloods had the best average home attendance (244) in the entire Thurlow Nunn League.

The award winners on the night were:

First Team: Supporters’ Player of the Year: Shaun Avis, runner-up Jamie Solkhon, third place Spike Bell; Players’ Player of the Year: Floyd Croll, runner-up Chris Reid, third Ben Lawrence; Manager’s Player of the Year: Ben Lawrence; Highest Goalscorer: Craig Calver with 22 goals; Blood of the Year: Tony Turner.

Reserve Team: Supporters’ Player of the Year: Ben Morrell; Players Player of the Year: Dave Scraggs; Manager’s Player of the Year: Ryan Dewey; Highest Goalscorer: Ben Morrell with 15 goals; Special Merit Award: Rebecca Player.

Under 18 Youth Team: Supporters’ Player of the Year: Nathan Banks; Players Player of the Year: Harry Clark; Manager’s Player of the Year: Suyash Gurung; Highest Goalscorer: Dan Whittle with four goals.
