Bloods fight back to earn a point

Saffron Walden Town fought back from two goals down to earn a draw at Halstead Town on Saturday.

The hosts scored twice in three minutes through Ryan Swallow and Scott Yearling to give Walden a mountain to climb. Stuart Kingham lessened the task before the interval when he reacted fastest to Craig Calver’s saved effort to score the rebound.

The Bloods were the better team throughout the second half but only had one goal to show for their industry, substitute Jamie Solkhon heading in Louis Harper’s cross.

The result means Walden lost ground on leaders Long Melford but remain within three points of their promotion rivals. Walden also have three games in hand on Melford, Stuart Wardley’s charges welcome Team Bury to Catons Lane tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.
