Bloods’ Griffin captains Cambs against Liverpool in FA Cup

PUBLISHED: 11:00 19 December 2014

Saffron Walden Town’s John Griffin captained Cambridgeshire County U18s as they took on Liverpool County in the FA County Youth Cup last-16 tie.

Griffin, left, who has recently turned 18, has been part of the Bloods’ set-up since he was five and has represented the club at every level from U6 to the first-team, playing several times last season.

Speaking prior to Saturday’s match, Griffin said: “It was a great honour to be handed the captaincy for the County side at the start of this season, and I have been very proud to lead the team in this competition.”

The Saffron Walden footballer was first called up to represent the Cambridgeshire County side at U16 level and was subsequently called up to U18 squad at the end of last season.

Cambridgeshire County lost Saturday’s fixture 2-1, but the whole experience has been one to remember for Griffin, who is now looking forward to getting back in action for Saffron Walden Town.
