Ben Lawrence battles for the Bloods

Captain Ben Lawrence has chosen to leave Saffron Walden Town after just over a season with the Bloods.

The defender, who starred in the Bloods’ promotion-winning 2014/15 season, remains unattached as he searches for a new club.

A club statement read: “On behalf of everyone at Saffron Walden Town I want to put on record our thanks to Ben Lawrence for everything he has done for the club.

“Ben joined us early in the 2014-15 season and was a fundamental part of our success last season, when the 1st team broke a number of club records - including 24 league games unbeaten, a record number of clean sheets, and gaining promotion to the Thurlow Nunn Premier League.

“Ben was our captain and proved himself a leader on and off the pitch in his time at the club. He led by example, was universally respected, and was a huge asset in the changing room.

“We respect his decision to move on and wish him all the best. Ben is a true ‘Blood’ and he and his family will always be welcome at Catons Lane.”
