Saffron Walden Town's committee has been busy improving facilities at Catons Lane ahead of the new season.
Chairman Martin Johnson revealed to the Reporter that over £6,000 has been spent during the summer rebuilding the bar area in the clubhouse and kitting out the changing rooms.
“The new bar area is beautiful,” he said. “It’s red and black tiling - it looks great.
“We’ve rebuilt the showers in the home, away and referees’ dressing rooms, which were quite frankly an embarrassment, and replaced the water tank. It’s not the most glamorous purchase but it’s very important.”
He added: “We want to continue improving the facilities we have got - we’ve got big improvements planned but it takes time.
“The car park needs improving some time soon, too. We’re relentlessly trying to improve facilities at Catons Lane.”
Johnson explained that the improved bar area is a big step towards cementing the club as a community hub, an aim that is actually written into the club objectives.
“We don’t want it to just be a venue for football. We want weddings, parties, live music, quizzes, etcetera,” he said.
“We think we’re living up to that at the moment but the more we can improve the better.”
One way the fans can help is to buy season tickets for the 2015/16 season. The club has already sold more than last year.
“The more we can encourage people to take up season tickets, memberships and other support like player sponsorship, the stronger we will be as a club.
“We are well on our way to selling a record number of season tickets and both the regular season ticket at £70 and the Gold Card for all first, reserve and U18 home league games for £100 are great value. Prices have been frozen from last season, despite more games being on offer.”
Season ticket and membership forms are available on the home page of the club’s website.
