FA Cup delight for Saffron Walden over Cheshunt

Saffron Walden Town are through to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup after a 2-0 win over Ryman League outfit Cheshunt.
The Bloods will take on Southern League side Hanwell Town on September 12.
If they can reproduce this kind of performance then they will have a real chance of making the second qualifying round for only the third time in the club’s history.
After some good first-half pressure, Walden took the lead shortly before the break.
A Spike Bell corner was sent into the box, and Chris Reid rose highest to nod in for 1-0.
If that goal had meant an alteration to Cheshunt’s team talk in the interval, the visitors’ plans must have been thrown into disarray just three minutes after the break.
Graeme Turner, playing his first full game of the season, raced forward 30 yards before sending in a low, hard cross to the far post.
Cheshunt defender Joe Kizzi met the ball, but trying to clear he instead sent it into his own net to give the Bloods a 2-0 lead.
Saffron Walden are next in action on Tuesday evening when they take on Haverhill Rovers in the Premier Division at the Meadow.
The club is putting on a coach to the FA Cup match at Hanwell. Tickets are available from the clubhouse priced £9 and £12.
