Football: Daniels to the rescue as Saffron Crocus beat Sawston Rovers

PUBLISHED: 17:05 20 February 2013

A GOAL and an assist from top scorer Adam Daniels sealed a first win in three games for Crocus at the expense of Rovers.

Both goals came deep in the second half as Crocus secured the points.

It was the home side who settled quicker, putting the visiting defence under pressure and forcing goalkeeper Scott Smith into saves and spurning opportunities to take the lead.

Crocus responded with some positive play, with Scott Palmer, James Trott and Dan Walker going close with chances.

After re-grouping at the interval, Crocus managed to move through the gears and take the game to Rovers, forcing corners and free kicks around the Sawston area but still failing to open the scoring.

As the game went on it seemed a draw would be the likely outcome, until Daniels sent a superb chipped pass into the path of Thomas Reginald Hollett, who controlled the ball and poked it past the advancing goalkeeper.

Crocus were able to add a second after a Ross Millard free kick was met by Stuart Sheperd, heading it into the path of Daniels to smash home his 20th goal of the season from close range.
