Thaxted Rangers ran out 6-1 winners over Clare Town in their Cambs League Division 1A meeting.

Both sides were promoted last term, after a healthy rivalry, but Thaxted raced out of the blocks as Tom Clark put them ahead.

It wasn’t until the 40th minute that they doubled their lead as Clark turned provider, with his cross swept home by Charlie Daniels.

Ky Richardson, 16, headed in from close range just before the break to make it 3-0, but Thaxted had seen a similar lead slip in a 4-3 loss to Clare last season.

Another great cross from Clark was diverted into his own net by a defender after the restart, though, and Daniels made it 5-0, before a great delivery from Chris Grout was met at the far post by Andy Macdowell for the sixth.

A late consolation goal spoiled the clean sheet, but Thaxted have hit 29 goals in their last four home games and replaced Clare in third place, with Debden up next.
