Goals either side of half-time from Sam Gregory and Louis Harper handed Saffron Walden a 2-0 win over Takeley.

Saturday was the first time the sides had played at Station Road, and it was the Bloods who came out on top as they picked up their fourth pre-season win on the bounce.

Walden goalkeeper Floyd Croll made a excellent one-on-one save to deny Ryan Lockett a break-away goal before Gregory score the inevitable opener. Five minutes from half-time, Shaun Avis played in new signing Gregory who neatly placed the ball past the outstretched goalkeeper, adding to his midweek goal against Cambridge City.

The second goal came in the 57th minute when Craig Calver pulled the ball back to Harper on the edge of the box and he unleased an unstoppable drive into the top corner.

The Bloods continued to have chances in the last 30 minutes but the final touch was elusive and they had to settle for a 2-0 win.

Walden play their final pre-season friendly this Saturday when they travel to Norfolk to play Diss Town, the only Eastern Counties League team to win the FA Vase.
