GOALS either side of half time from Shaun Fleet and Matt Glass made sure that United returned to winning form after a mixed start to the New Year in the Kershaw Premier League.

In five games since January 1, United have drawn one, won two and lost two. Off the pitch they have also struggled as they search for a proven assistant manager following the departure of manager Pete Carter two weeks ago.

Toby Dawson has taken over as player manager and is looking for an assistant to share the workload but he will no doubt be happy with a 2-0 win that will boost his side as they climb back towards the top six.

Fleet scored a left-footed effort midway through the first half after some energetic wing play and an accurate cross from Glass.

Glass, the league’s top goal scorer with 17, then went from provider to goal scorer as he pounced in the second 45 to break clear and slot past the keeper to seal all three points.

Anyone interested in the assistant manager vacancy at Whittlesford United can contact Chairman Grant Baker on 01223 834180 or e-mail grant568@btinternet.com

Next: United host Newmarket Town Reserves at The Lawn. Kick off 2pm.
