POOR defending cost Saffron Walden a place in the next round of the Essex Senior Cup as they lost 3-2 at home to Essex Senior League side Bowers & Pitsea on Tuesday night.

It was a game The Bloods should have won comfortably from the chances they created.

The visitors took a 20th minute lead through Alex Tenola but Joe Murphy equalised 10 minutes later with a glancing header.

Tenola was on the scoresheet again two minutes into the second half after Bloods keeper Paul Wood could only palm a long range shot into his path. Further sloppy defending moments later allowed Lorenzo Ramsey to slide the ball home from close range to make it 3-1.

Murphy restored some balance with his second a minute later, but for all their pressure, Walden could not find the equaliser.

Walden are back in league action at home to Swaffham Town on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

WALDEN: Paul Wood, Spike Bell, Jamie Solkhon, Joe Murphy, Alex Riches, Chris Reid, James Crane (Louis Harper – 64 mins), Joe Rudkin (Matt Snelling – 80 mins), Darren Bicknell, Sean Avis (Peter Davies – 78 mins), Graeme Turner.
