FA Cup fever is set to hit Catons Lane on Saturday as Saffron Walden Town play host to Ryman League side Cheshunt in the preliminary round (3pm).
While promotion to the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division on the final day of the season was the highlight of the 2014/15 campaign, it was the cup competitions that really got the juices flowing at the club.
SWTFC chairman, Martin Johnson, said: “There is something magical about the FA Cup, and it’s fantastic we now have a home tie after knocking out Hadley in the last round.
“The backing of the supporters in cup ties last season was brilliant and we need another big turnout on Saturday to cheer the lads on.
“Saturday’s match will be tough against step four opposition, but with the home crowd getting right behind the team, we are confident we can put in a big performance.”
Town have had a difficult start to life in the Premier Division with fourth losses from four games.
They were beaten 4-3 on Saturday at home to table-toppers Felixstowe & Walton United.
Armani Scharr and Sheridan Driver put the away side 2-0 at half-time.
After the break Craig Calver won a penalty, but then saw his spot kick saved.
However, Joe Murphy later headed home to reduce the arrears. With 10 minutes to go, a Graeme Turner shot was parried to Calver and he made it 2-2.
Just five minutes later a debatable penalty was awarded for the away side and Miles Powell converted to secure the three points.
Walden then suffered a 1-0 loss at Mildenhall Town on Tuesday night with the only goal of the game coming from Luke Butcher on five minutes.
Despite that, the club will look to Saturday’s cup clash to ignite their results at this early stage of the season.
