Saffron Walden Town U18s finished their season on a high by beating Lawford Junior Blues 3-2 to lift the Colchester Open Cup at Wivenhoe Town FC.

Walden got off to a fantastic start and within four minutes they were ahead.

Charlie Dicker leapt highest to steer Ollie Rand’s cross into the roof of the net.

Minutes later it was two as Dicker scored again after breaking free on the left and finishing superbly.

Max Barry then went close with a volley from the edge of the box which was tipped away by the keeper.

On the stroke of half-time, Rand was the provider once more when his corner was met by skipper Jack Young who powerfully headed home for his 10th goal of the season for a 3-0 interval advantage.

Town looked to be cruising to victory but with 15 minutes to go, Lawford made it 3-1 and made it a nervy finish in injury-time as they converted a set-piece but Town hung on.
