Young footballers in Saffron Walden will benefit after 17 people - 13 from Spartak 78 YSC and four from PSG FC - defied the wind and rain at Herbert’s Farm to successfully complete the FA Level 1 Award in Coaching Football.

Their final assessment on Sunday was the culmination of some long weekends of training, and all 17 coaches passed at the first attempt. The course was delivered by Gary Piggott of Essex County FA.

Matt Clare, chairman of PSG FC and vice-chairman of Spartak 78 YSC, said: “As Charter Standard Community Clubs, Spartak and PSG have a responsibility to ensure that our coaches and managers hold the recognised FA qualifications. The boys and girls of both clubs are both proud and lucky to have so many volunteers who are willing to give up their precious weekends - not only to complete this course, but every other weekend of the football season.”

PSG FC is looking for more girls to join their rapidly expanding teams, especially in school years 5, 7 and 8, and the club now boasts nine FA qualified coaches. For more information, visit www.psgfc.co.uk
