Greg Strong scored a last-minute goal to see Saffron Walden Town past Downham Town and ensure they kept pace with league leaders Long Melford.

The Bloods and Downham were seemingly headed for a goalless draw at Catons Lane on Saturday until Strong latched on to Jamie Solkhon’s knock-down to score the winner.

The three points saw Walden consolidate second place in the Thurlow Nunn First Division, behind Melford on goal difference. Walden, though, have two games in hand.

The Bloods are in League Cup action against Newmarket Town on Tuesday night, 7.45pm kick-off.
