Saffron Walden Town’s U18s are out of the FA Youth Cup after losing 3-1 to Waltham Abbey.

Walden went 1-0 down seven minutes into the match when a corner from the left found its way through to the Waltham Abbey striker. Minutes later a long range shot looped over the keeper’s head to make it 2-0 and with just 15 minutes gone. And things went from bad to worse when Abbey scored again from the edge of the penalty area to take a 3-0 lead.

A shell-shocked Walden then began to find their feet with some tough tackling from Harry Clark and Mikey Sharp and surging runs from Nick Cooper. The Bloods’ pressure was rewarded in the 40th minute when Sam Ager, from 40 yards out on the right hand side, looped a shot over the keeper into the top right corner.

The second half was evenly matched with chances falling to both sides but the damage had been done in the first 15 minutes and the match ended 3-1.
