Archant

Saffron Walden Golf Club’s scratch teams came together at the weekend for some last-ditch preparation before the season starts.

The men’s team included some established players, as well as fringe and junior players.

The first pairing featured men’s scratch captain Graham Goodman partnering current ladies’ champion Justine Voss. They took on ladies’ scratch captain and multiple champion Linda Kelsey and James Goodfellow.

Goodman and Voss, after losing the first, produced irresistible golf with three birdies in nine holes to go two under par gross. They eventually ran out winners 4&2.

Next up was Jackie Smith and up-and-coming Spencer Burlingham who took on Dan Chapman and Elaine Purcell. Both pairings were one under after two holes and all square. Burlingham and Smith eventually ran out winners 2up.

In the final pairing, Louis Martin and Kiyoko McLellan took on John Jenkins and Melissa Jones. Martin and McLellan were two over after eight holes and won 3&1.
